Before the summer rush hits, we’re putting our focus right where it belongs: on the safety and wellbeing of our amazing community.</p><p><strong>Real-Life Heroes: The Gatton Team</strong> A recent tragic drowning at a non-BlueFit Queensland aquatic centre was a sobering reminder of the immense responsibility we hold. It highlighted just how critical vigilant supervision and strict safety protocols are. But today, we want to celebrate what happens when our teams get it absolutely right.</p><p>Back in May, our team at the Lockyer Valley Sports and Aquatic Centre (Gatton) faced a major aquatic incident. Thanks to their rapid response and lifesaving CPR and first aid skills, they saved a swimmer's life! Their incredible teamwork and fast thinking even earned them a special invitation to the Mayor's Office for formal recognition. While we spend so much of our time focused on recruitment, training, assessments, and compliance, it's moments like this that truly highlight the impact our work has on young people and the communities they serve.</p><p>We recently received a beautiful message from a School VET Coordinator in NSW recognising one of our LEA School-Based Trainees (SBATs). After school had finished for the day, a Year 9 student was unfortunately hit by a car nearby. Our LEA SBAT was the very first person to render assistance, putting their training into action when it mattered most. They remained entirely calm, safely moved the student off the road, called the school for assistance, and stayed with the student until help arrived.</p><p>As the VET Coordinator shared with us:</p><p><em>"The LEA SBAT won't say anything as they are probably too humble to do so, but I am so very proud of them ... You give students the skills, but you never know what they will do when-or if-their training needs to kick in. So, on behalf of the school, and the Year 9 student, thank you for the training that you provide. I think you can rest assured that if an emergency occurs while they are on duty, they will respond exactly as required. Both the patrons and their fellow students are in safe hands."</em></p><p>Thank you to everyone who plays a role in developing our trainees. Their calm thinking and confidence are a credit to themselves, their workplace, and their school.
