Our programs

Our programs are delivered by qualified and experienced swim teachers, for students from their first year of school through to high school. We assess each student and assign a level to build their swimming and water safety skills.

What to expect

How a school swimming program runs, from booking through to certificates.
1

Before

Parents complete a short survey. We group students by ability, send the school the class list, and provide a risk assessment if you need one.
2

First day

Check in, move into pre-arranged groups, then a program induction covering safety and expectations.
3

During

Students work through their level and are assessed throughout. School teachers stay on deck to help, and our Program Leader can move students to a better-suited level.
4

At the end

The final day can include water safety skills or fun activities. Every student gets a certificate showing their level, and we send a rebooking request for next year.

Water safety benchmarks

Our programs are built on the National Swimming and Water Safety Framework.
By age 6
5 m
Move continuously, and float and recover to a standing position.
By age 12
50 m
Swim continuously, tread water for 2 minutes and signal for help.
By age 17
400 m
Swim continuously, recover a person from deep water and give first aid.
Full benchmarks for every age are in the school swimming brochure.

Frequently asked questions

What if a student has additional learning needs?

Tell us at the time of booking. That lets us raise teacher to student ratios, arrange smaller classes and brief the teaching team before the program starts. Let us know too if there are students who should not be in a class together. Where we cannot accommodate a student safely, a school teacher or carer may need to be in the pool with them.

Are we required to have our school community complete the pre-program survey?

It is strongly encouraged that parents complete the survey as this allows the students on the first day to participate in their allocated class. BlueFit Staff will then confirm throughout the first lesson that all students are correctly allocated into a level for the duration of the program. Any students that do not complete the pre-program survey will need to complete a practical assessment on day one, which will mean they will not be able to participate in a full lesson until we have assigned a level.

How do you address parent concerns about students in the incorrect level?

If parents have concerns about the level of their child in the program they are welcome to raise their concerns with the school and we will address these concerns with the school directly. Contacting the facility to request information about the school program is not necessary and unfortunately due to operations our Customer Service Representatives will not have this information on hand to assist.

Do the students receive a certificate?

All students who participate in the program will receive a certificate showing their swim level. These are provided to the school on the final day of the program and can be handed out at school to all the students. Students who want to keep learning can then enrol in BlueFit Swim School lessons.

Do the students need to wear a swimming cap?

It is not a requirement for students to wear a swimming cap. However, if they have one or need to, we encourage a cap to keep hair off their face. If a cap is not worn, we ask that longer hair is tied back and off the students’ faces.

Can parents attend the facility to watch their child’s lesson?

While we welcome parents to our facilities, especially parent helpers to assist the school teachers, we are also aware that parents can at times cause distraction and can also not be beneficial for some students. If you are going to encourage parents to visit and watch their children we do ask you to inform parents not to address or approach the BlueFit Swimming team with concerns or interfere with our teaching teams. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with parents’ involvement and implementing our communication expectations while parents are at our facility.
