Frequently Asked Questions For Staff

We understand that during this time of change, there will be a number of questions raised by employees. We hope that viewing our ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ below will answer any of the questions or concerns you may have.

Who is BlueFit?

BlueFit is part of the BlueFit Group (www.bluefit.com.au)

Founded in 2007 by owner and Chief Executive Officer Todd McHardy, BlueFit has worked in partnership with Local Government, Private Enterprise and various partners delivering sport, recreation and aquatic programs and services nationwide.

Operating more than 70 facilities nationwide, BlueFit is committed to Inspiring Community Activity in the communities we serve. In fact, this underpins everything we do in our facilities and swim schools.

Why is management changing?

Alexandrina Council and the City of Victor Harbour has undertaken a formal procurement process and appointed BlueFit as the new operator, commencing 1 July 2026.

What does this mean for me right now?

It remains business as usual until the transition date. Your current employment continues with YMCA SA until that time.

Will I automatically have a job?

Employment is not automatically transferred. However, we anticipate that many current employees will be offered roles, subject to:

  • Application via EOI
  • Role requirements
  • Recruitment outcomes
  • Meeting mandatory requirements

Will my role stay the same?

Where possible, roles will align closely with current positions, however some changes may occur due to operational requirements.

Will my current employment conditions carry over?

No. Employment with BlueFit will be under a new contract and governed by the relevant Award (e.g. Fitness Industry Award 2020).

Any entitlements from your current employer should be discussed directly with them.

What will happen to my job?

While employment cannot be guaranteed for all current employees, we anticipate that many existing team members will be offered the opportunity to continue their employment with BlueFit, subject to meeting the requirements of the role and successfully progressing through the recruitment and selection process.

While BlueFit operates its facilities with some differences in structure and systems, we expect that, where possible, roles offered will be broadly aligned to your current position.

BlueFit is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, including all genders, ages, abilities, cultures, sexual orientations, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

What is the recruitment process?

Step 1 – Submit EOI

All interested employees must apply.

Step 2 – Interviews (if required)

Group or individual sessions may be scheduled.

Step 3 – Outcome Notification

Applicants advised via email.

Step 4 – Onboarding

Completion of online onboarding, contracts, and compliance.

What does the onboarding process involve?

Active employees will receive an invitation to commence onboarding online. This must be completed before the commencement of your initial shift. This includes electronically signing your employment agreement as well as reviewing and acknowledging key employment policies.

You need to prepare the following information for your onboarding:

  • Your bank account details
  • Your tax file number
  • Your superannuation details
  • Your emergency contact details
  • All qualifications

It is important to note that all qualifications and clearances are subject to central verification to ensure each employee holds the current qualifications and clearances for the role you perform.

What are the non-negotiables working for BlueFit?

Employees may be required to hold:

  • Working With Children Check
  • First Aid & CPR
  • Role-specific qualifications (e.g. swim teacher, lifeguard)

It is the responsibility of each staff member to keep the necessary qualifications and clearances active at all times. Where required, training opportunities may be provided.

What happens if I don’t hold the above qualifications?

Southern Education, BlueFit’s internal RTO, will provide courses locally close to the change in management date. Any new employee who does not have an active mandatory qualification must book into one of these courses.

Do I need to supply any other documents?

Yes. To be employed by BlueFit, you may be required to provide evidence of your right to work in Australia.

If requested, you will need to supply one of the following:

  • A copy of your current passport (photo page); or
  • A copy of your birth certificate along with a current photo ID

What is it like working for BlueFit?

BlueFit is a family-owned and operated business that has been servicing the community for over 16 years. We treat our team members like family and value team members who demonstrate outstanding service and who are committed to achieving our mission.

People are our biggest asset at BlueFit and our team members are treated with respect. We are always looking for people who are positive team players and always willing to go that extra mile when it comes to ensuring our families have a great experience in our facilities and swim schools.

Will my service with YMCA SA count for continuity of employment purposes?

If you are offered employment with BlueFit, you will be issued a new employment contract as a new employee. Please note that any previous service and statutory entitlements, such as leave and long service leave, with your former employer will not be recognised or carried over to BlueFit. Additionally, your employment with BlueFit will be subject to a probationary period of six months.

Upon cessation of employment with any organisation, it is customary to expect that all statutory entitlements owed to you would be settled at the termination date of your employment. You should discuss these matters directly with your current employer.

When do I get paid?

BlueFit has a fortnightly pay cycle. All employees receive their pay transferred electronically to a personal bank account nominated during your onboarding process. Additionally, your payslip will be sent to the email address you provide as part of your onboarding through SALT self-service or alternatively you can access via cloud payroll.

When will I be paid by BlueFit?

BlueFit will pay your wages or salary, effective from the operational start date relevant to your place of employment. You will be paid for any training hours that you complete with BlueFit.

Your first payment will be processed on Thursday 16th July 2026.

Will I keep my current rate of pay?

As you will be a new employee of BlueFit, you will be issued with a new employment contract that will reference the Fitness Industry Award 2020 as the industrial agreement that governs your terms and conditions of employment.

Your pay rates will be in line with the Fitness Industry Award.

The terms and conditions of your employment agreement with YMCA SA will not apply if you commence employment with us.

Group Fitness Instructor class rates will be discussed during the recruitment process.

Will I keep my rostered shifts?

We regularly review staffing and team member rosters based on the operational needs of the business, customer demands and enrolment numbers.

As part of your onboarding process, we will request availability from all employees and will always work with team members to ensure rosters reflect availability and business needs. That said, team members with greater flexibility and availability will enjoy a broader selection of shifts available.

We expect all team members to commit to rosters assigned to them to maintain consistency in instructors for our families and high standards of service.

Team members should expect to be rostered into various schedules that reflect the operational needs of the business. It is important to note that employment agreements do not specify specific days and times of work, and team members do not have a right to specific shifts unless they are entitled to a set work pattern as a part-time employee.

What happens if I have already booked annual leave to be taken when BlueFit is my employer?

While we cannot assure you that all leave approved by your previous employer will be possible, we encourage you to discuss any leave arrangements with us as part of the recruitment process.

Permanent employees will be asked about ‘approved’ leave as part of their application and interview process to help with our resource planning.

Can I choose to remain an employee of YMCA SA?

Yes, however, this is a discussion you will need to have with the YCMA SA. For you to continue to be employed at the Fleurieu Aquatic Centre,, you will need to become an employee of BlueFit.

Will I have to sign a new employment contract with BlueFit?

Yes. To become an employee of BlueFit you will be required to sign a new Employment Contract as part of your onboarding process. Employment agreements will refer to the Fitness Industry Award 2020 that will govern the conditions of your employment with BlueFit.

Does BlueFit provide opportunities to work at other sites?

Yes. Subject to availability, BlueFit can roster employees at other locations we manage nationwide. Furthermore, team members may like to consider career development opportunities that may become available from time to time at other BlueFit locations.
